The Masters in Coaching Education is a professional education program for practicing coaches. As such, the emphasis is less on theory and more on application. Rather than emphasizing abstract concepts, the curriculum is designed to help you improve your skills and competencies in the area of coaching.
The primary areas of work responsibility are addressed in the courses (see course descriptions in the program structure area). Courses will focus on areas, such as coaching foundations; the physiological, psychological and sociological factors and principles affecting athletic performance; and the administrative and legal issues facing the coaching profession. Basic concepts in each area will be addressed in each course and the application of those concepts emphasized. In addition, courses will have a contemporary focus, emphasizing current problems and current opportunities related to the content area. Most of the courses will emphasize projects and activities that are directly related to your work, activities that often produce products that you can use immediately in your coaching position.
The Masters in Coaching Education will integrate your learning into your work. As a result, you will develop a continuing learning attitude and skill. You will start to view issues on your job as learning opportunities rather than problems; you will develop the skills necessary to use the resources available (including others in your learning community) to not only manage the issues, but develop your competencies.
