About the Program
WHY OHIO UNIVERSITY

The Masters in Coaching Education was created in response to the needs and interests of coaching professionals just like you. The Ohio University School of Recreation and Sport Sciences started a Master of Science degree in Recreation and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Coaching Education in the 2001-2002 academic year. It is one of some 25 programs of its kind in the United States. While the program incorporates important theories, it emphasizes the application of those theories in a practical and relevant way. In its short existence, graduates have successfully competed for and taken coaching positions in various athletic environments, including collegiate athletics, interscholastic athletics, and club sports.

Ohio University is a pioneer in the development and delivery of high quality online education through its Ohio University Without Boundaries (OUWB) unit. OUWB has been recognized by the University Continuing Education Association in 1999 for “Creative Programming”, The Association of Continuing Higher Education in 2002 for “Creative Use of Technology” and the Ohio Continuing Higher Education Association in 2006 for “Program Excellence”. OUWB offers administrative and operational experience in developing and delivering successful credit and non-credit blended programming. OUWB professionals are experienced in online learning and web design. These full time staff members work closely with faculty during the design and development process. OUWB also has dedicated IT staff that provide 24 hours/7days per week support for both faculty and students, during the development and the delivery phases of each program.
