Media monitoring brings together methods from public relations, media advocacy, communications research and participatory communication. Media monitoring is more than gathering newspaper clippings; media monitoring is about getting to know local and national media, making sense of how pertinent issues are framed by media and communicating your publics’ interests and feedback to relevant media producers. In this course you will participate in laying the groundwork for a media monitoring system for your organization.
The modules are designed to integrate media analysis approaches with your work in a development organization. You will not only learn, but also take the key steps to laying the groundwork and implementing a media monitoring program by creating a media audit, establishing a baseline assessment of media issues framing and developing a proposal for community feedback and media advocacy.
