The Ohio University School of Nursing (OUSON) was started in 1975 in response to the needs of registered nurses (RNs) in the rural communities of Southeastern Ohio. At the time a number of diploma and associate degree nursing programs existed but none offered a baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN). Ohio University became one of the first in the country to provide a flexible way for RNs to pursue higher education without "starting over." Credit for prior education is transferred when students enroll in the OUSON RN-to-BSN program.
Since the beginning, typical students have been adult learners, highly motivated with families and careers. The OUSON recognizes the lived experiences that students bring to learning and promotes active participation and collaboration throughout the educational process. The OUSON is a pioneer in delivering courses to its students at remote sites. For many years classes were available through interactive television that simultaneously reached students at various Ohio University branch campuses. Although this approach satisfied the needs of many, there was a growing number of nurses who could not attend school at these locations. So the program moved to interactive online learning. Instead of students coming to class, the class comes to them!
The OUSON faculty have developed the program in collaboration with the experts at Ohio University Without Boundaries (OUWB), renowned for the development and delivery of high quality online education. Its first program, the MBA Without Boundaries, has garnered numerous awards and recognition for its approach to learning.
Why Ohio University? Long recognized for its innovation in distance education, the OUSON RN-to-BSN online program may be just right for you. Click through the site to learn how you can advance your career today!
